Congress leaders led by former MLC Ivan D'Souza have asked the Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom) to waive the electricity bill during Lockdown.

Mangaluru, May 17, 2021: The Congress delegation led by former MLC Ivan D’Souza has asked the government to waive off the electricity bill during Lockdown.

“Laborers, small and medium businessmen have been affected due to the lockdown. Mescom should not disconnect the power supply if the bills are not paid. The bills during lockdown should be completely waived off,” the Congress leaders stated in the memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister through Mescom MD Prashanth Kumar Mishra.

While many states have completely waived off the electricity bills during the lockdown, some states have waived the bills up to 200 units. The Congress leaders wanted the Karnataka government to take similar measures.

Senior Corporator Naveen D’Souza, City Block Congress president Prakash Saliyan, former Corporator Bhaskar Rao, Youth Congress leaders Chittaranjan Shetty, Mahesh Kodikal, Alston Cutinha, Salim Mukka, Yusuf Uchil, Arif Bava, Abibulla Kannur, and others were present.
