New Delhi, Dec 25, 2020: Prime Minister Narendra Modi released ₹ 2000 each to 9.4 crore farmers under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme today.

Total of ₹ 1,80,98,06,90,000 crore amounting ₹ 2000 each was deposited directly in the accounts of 9,04,90,345 farmers under the scheme. The money will be credited in the account of the farmers within two hours.

On the occasion the Prime Minister interacted with the farmers. The farmer from Arunachal Pradesh was the first to interact.

The first two instalments under the scheme were given in April and August this year. This is the third and final instalment under PM Kisan Sammaan Nidhi.

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme was launched by PM NarendraModi in 2019. The Scheme aims to provide income support to all landholder farmer families across the country with cultivable land, subject to certain exclusions. Under the Scheme, an amount of ₹ 6000 per year is released in three instalments of ₹ 2000 each directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.

ln the beginning, when the PM-KISAN Scheme was launched (February, 2019), its benefits were admissible only to Small & marginal Farmers’ families, with combined landholding upto 2 hectare.

The Scheme was later revised in June 2019 and extended to all farmer families irrespective of the size of their landholdings. The Central Government had notified a decision to extend the benefit of ₹ 6,000 per year under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme to all farmers in the country, irrespective of the size of their landholding.

Earlier on August 9, this year , the Prime Minister announced to transfer ₹ 17 thousand crore Rupees under PM KisanSammanNidhi to the accounts of 8.5 crore farmer families. First instalment of ₹ 2000 was given to farmers in April itself. Under this scheme, farmers will get ₹ 2000 each in three instalments totalling Rs 6000 per annum in their accounts.

This scheme has arrived as a blessing to small and marginal farmers who always suffer to manage their expenses as agriculture is dependent on vagaries of nature. Union and state governments are implementing various schemes to mitigate the sufferings of farmers especially during lockdown too.
