Dharmasthala, Dec 12, 2020: Malathesh Gorapajja of Hanagal is 76. But his enthusiasm is nothing less than a teenager.

A great devotee of Lord Sri Manjunatha, Gorapajja visits Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala every year. But this visit has something special. Gorapajja does not come in a bus or private vehicle but on ‘Padayatra.’

He walks from Hanagal to Dharmasthala, covering about 20 km every day.

Hundreds of devotees come to Dharmasthala every year through Padayatra from various parts of the state.

Gorapajja’s Padayatra from Haveri to Dharmasthala has a very long history. He has been coming to Dharmasthala for the last 40 years during Lakshadeepotsava. Lakshadeepotsava is one of the grand annual celebration held at Dharmasthal in the Hindu month of ‘Karthika Masa.’

This year Gorapajja left Hanagal on November 17 and reached Dharmasthala today.

Though it is a long journey, Gorapajja seemed to have forgotten all the tiredness once he arrived at Dharmasthala.

“Everybody helps me during Padayatra. Padayatra has kept me fit and in good health. I get happiness,” Malathesh Gorapajja says with great devotion.
