Udyavara Madhava Acharya passes away
Udupi, Dec 07, 2020: Famous theatre personality, actor, and poet Udyavara Madhava Acharya (80) passed away on Monday.
Known for his oratory skills, Udyavara Madhava Acharya had tried various experiments on theatre.
His works included Short Stories, Essays, Poems, Dramas, Dance Dramas, and experimental theatrical works.
Born on March 25, 1941, Acharya had served as Professor in Bhandarkar’s College- Kundapura and at Poornaprajna College (PPC) Udupi.
His ‘Samuha,’ the group of artists that included his colleagues, friends, and budding artists was a platform for various experiments.
Theatrical works like Brahmakapala (a different perspective given to classical Yakshagana Prasanga), Kuvara Bhasmasura (dance-drama written and directed by Udyavara Madhava Acharya), Shvamedha (Ballad by Sediyapu Krishna Bhat) Matte Ramana Kathe (Sanskrit Drama by Bhavabhuti translated by Bannanje Govinda Acharya) were some of the product of his experiments.
A recipient of the Rajyotsava Award, Acharya had served as a member of Janapada Academy.
Acharya was a friendly person who would speak fluently in various languages. He would turn a child among children and a scholar among scholars.
He is survived by wife, son, and three daughters.
Various artists and scholars have condoled his death.
