 Demand for bribe: 3 year imprisonment for Village Accountant

Udupi, Nov 25, 2020: A Kundapura court found a Village Accountant guilty of receiving bribe and sentenced three year imprisonment.
The incident dates back to 2011.

Mohini of Tekkattee village in Kundapur taluk wanted to construct a house in her 10 cents land. She had applied for land conversion. The Village Accountant had said that the conversion process would cost ₹15 thousand. He had also received an advance of ₹8 thousand. However after few days when Mohini enquired, the officer allegedly had asked a bribe of ₹7 thousand.

Mohini’s son Vikram Kamath had filed a complaint at the Lokayukta- Udupi station on March 15, 2011. The Lokayukta trapped and arrested VA Manjunath. The then Lokayukta Inspector Timmaiah had filed a chargesheet at Udupi District and Sessions Court. The court had transfered it to Kundapur.

On Wednesday the Kundapur court found Manjunath H R guilty and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 and 1 year imrpisonment under Column 7 and ₹20,000 fine and 2 year imprisonment under Column 13 (2).

T Vijay Kumar Shetty Indrali had argued as Special Public Procecutor in the case.
