Udupi, Nov 15: In a quick move, the Railway Protection Force Officials of Konkan Railway arrested a person within hours after he stole gold and cash from a woman.

The incident took place on Nov 13. One Vanita Diwakar Shetty had boarded Mangala Express at Udupi for Mumbai. While traveling she found that her handbag was stolen from her berth.

She immediately complained to the TTE. The Handbag contained a gold bangle, a Mangalsutra, a Mobile, Key bunch, Aadhar card, ATM card, Mediclaim card, and a Purse with ₹ 6,000 cash. The total value was about ₹ 2,20,000.

On getting information Inspector Crime and Intelligence RPF /Madgaon Vinod Kumar analyzed the CCTV and noticed a suspected person on the platform wearing a designed colored cap. The photo of that person with that cap was circulated on WhatsApp of the RPF group.

On Nov 14 the suspect was apprehended while wearing the same cap. He was apprehended by on duty Karwar staff Constable Vinayak R.D. and train escorting duty staff of Madgaon from the general coach of Netravati Express at Karwar station. The stolen items including gold were recovered.

After stealing, the accused, identified as Nikhil Kumar of Kannur- Kerala had boarded the Netravathi Express to return to his native when the officials arrested him.

He was brought from Karwar and handed over to Konkan Railway Police. A case is registered under section 379 of IPC.

While the officials thanked the woman for immediately bringing the crime to their notice due to which they could act immediately, people have appreciated the RPF officials for their quick action.
