Green Crackers: Govt takes strict measures following High Court order

Udupi, Nov 13: With High Court on Nov 13 asking the state government to ensure that only green crackers are sold, the chief secretary has sent necessary directions to the heads of all the concerned departments.

• City Corporations, Police Department and related Authorities should enforce the Government order related to Green Crackers issued on Nov 6, Nov 10, and Nov 11.
• Officials should visit the outlets selling crackers and ensure that only the crackers certified by CSIR and NEERI are sold.
• Wide publicity to be given about the use of green crackers and warn people to use only the specified type of crackers.
• Police and Pollution Control Board should take action against the violators.
  No tolerance towards the violators.
• Strictly follow the order issued by National Green Tribunal on Nov 9.

The government has asked the City Corporation Commissioners, City Corporations, Police Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Superintendent of Police of all the district State Pollution Control Board, and other department officials to strictly enforce the Court order.

All the authorities have been asked to provide a report to the Revenue department Principal Secretary (Disaster Management) about the action taken by Nov 19, 5 pm.
