Udupi, Nov 03: The efforts of Udupi district administration in fighting COVID have borne fruits. After three and half months the total active cases in the district has declined below 500.

Udupi district that had succeeded in restricting COVID to only three cases in the initial days recorded a sudden surge in the number. The number increased to such an extent that the district had topped the COVID list.

However, the comprehensive and consistently high districtwide testing, prompt-effective surveillance, tracking, quick hospitalization, and effective adherence of the Standard Treatment Protocol issued by the Union Government succeeded in bringing the number down drastically.

The selfless dedicated service of the officials headed by District Incharge Secretary Maheshwar Rao, Deputy Commissioner G Jagadish, ZP CEO Dr Naveen Bhat, Additional DC Sadashiva Prabhu, District Health Officer Dr. Sudhirchandra Sooda, Nodal officer for COVID management Dr. Prashanth Bhat, District Surgeon Dr. Madhusudhan Nayak, doctors, paramedics, frontline workers, and all other COVID-19 warriors helped the district in bringing normalcy in the district.

In the past few days, the district has reported less than 100 cases following which the number of active cases too decreased drastically.

“The number of active cases in the district today is 463. We are reporting less than 500 active cases for the first time after July 18,” Dr. Prashanth Bhat said.
People too are happy with the achievement of the district.

“We are really happy that the district administration has succeeded in controlling COVID. It is a good achievement. The district has also controlled the number of deaths,” M R Bhat, a businessman told The Canara Post.

The district administration is also taking active measures in enforcing precautionary measures like wearing the mask and social distancing.

Active involvement of the elected representatives:

Elected representatives including Incharge Minister Basavaraj Bommai, MP Shobha Karandlaje MLAs Haladi Srinivas Poojary, Sukumar Shetty, Raghupathi Bhat, Sunil Kumar and Lalaji Mendon supported every step of the district administration. MLA Raghupath Bhat and former Minister Pramod Madhwaraj repeatedly requested the people to go for quick testing. All these efforts have now borne fruits.
