Karnataka Council poll counting postponed
Karwar, Oct 31: The Election Commission of India has decided to postpone the counting of the Karnataka Legislative Council Election.
This follows a representation by the Congress Party which had demanded the Election Commission to postpone the counting date
Due to this decision the counting of South East Graduates, Karnataka West Graduates, Karnataka North-East Teachers and Bangalore Teacher’s constituencies will now be held on Nov 10 instead of Nov 2.
Election for these constituencies was held on October 28 and the scheduled date for counting of votes is Nov 2.
However, the Indian National Congress, submitted a representation on October 31 to the Commission, requesting postponement of counting to date after November 3. The representation to postpone the counting date is since polling for the by-elections from 136-Sira and 154-Rajarajeshwarinagar Assembly Constituencies in Karnataka are scheduled to be held on Nov 3.
After taking the inputs from the Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka in the matter. He informed the Commission that the Returning Officers for the Biennial elections have opined that the Counting of votes for the Biennial elections can be conducted on Nov 10 along with the counting for Bye-elections and thereby recommended the Commission to conduct the Counting of votes for the Biennial elections on Nov 10.
Considering all aspects of the matter and the input received from the Chief Electoral Officer, Karnataka in this regard, the Commission has decided to reschedule the date for counting of votes and the date before which the election shall be completed in respect of the Biennial Election to the Karnataka Legislative Council from 02 Graduates’ and 02 Teachers’ constituencies.
