Bantwal, Oct 28: An areca trader was stabbed and robbed of ₹3.5 lakh cash while he was returning home on Tuesday late evening.

Police said that Deepak G Shetty, an arecanut trader at Perne was returning home in the evening. At around 6.30 pm when he reached Pajekodi of Biliyur village in Bantwal, two strangers who came in a two wheeler waylaid him.

They hit on his head and stabbed and took away ₹3.50 lakh cash, a gold chain weighing 1.2 sovereign, and also a mobile set.

A case under IPC Section 341 (wrongful restrain) and 394 (Causing hurt in committing robbery) has been registered at Uppinangady Police Station.
