‘Name Mangaluru Airport after Rani Abbakka’
Mangaluru, Oct 06: Veera Rani Abbakka Utsava Samithi has demanded Mangaluru International Airport to be named after the warrior queen.
Addressing reporters here on Wednesday, K Jayaram Shetty said that the queen who was one of the first to fight against the foreign powers is the pride of Karnataka.
“The government should name Mangaluru International Airport, Flyover at Thokkotu, Ullal Overbridge, and new junctions after Rani Abbakka,” he demanded.
“The construction work of Abbakka Bhavana should be completed at the earliest and also set up the Abbakka Study Center at Mangaluru University. We will protest in front of DCs office and Ullal Municipality office if the government does not fulfill these demands,” he warned.
Shetty said that though the then CM D V Sadananda Gowda had released ₹1 crore for Abbakka Adhyayana Kendra in Mangaluru University, the center has not yet been set up.
Similar is the case with Abbakka Bhavana which is pending despite the government releasing ₹8 crores and providing 41 cents land for the building.
