Mangaluru, Sep 17: Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has stated that the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has agreed to retain the office of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax in Mangaluru.

The government had earlier proposed to abolish the office of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax in Mangaluru and merge it with the Office of Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Panji.

Congress and other opposition parties and organizations including the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industries (KCCI) had strongly opposed this move.

On Thursday MP Nalin Kumar Kateel tweeted thanking the finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman for considering his personal request and agreeing to retain the Principal Commissioner’s office in Mangaluru.

He has thanked Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and D V Sadananda Gowda for supporting him in the cause.
