Doctors condemn FIR against District Surgeon
Karwar, Sep 05: The Indian Medical Association has strongly condemned the filing of an FIR against the District Surgeon.
Following the death of a patient two days ago, an FIR was registered against DS Shivanand Kudtharkar.
A protest was held on Saturday demanding the suspension and arrest of the Dr Kudtharkar.
Meanwhile, the doctors have taken serious note of the FIR registered against the District Surgeon and have submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.
“Doctors profession is a noble profession and every doctor tries his best to help the patient. However, the profession is not without drawbacks. People make a mistake in judging the difference between complication and negligence,” IMA president (Karwar Branch) Dr. Nitin S Pikle and Secretary Dr. Sharad Kolvekar stated in the memorandum.
“In this case, it is a complication that could happen to any patient anywhere. hence it is wrong to blame the doctor, institute, or hospital as a cause of death. We object to the FIR against doctors. This will reduce their morale and efficiency at work,” they added.
They also requested to take note of the situation and give necessary protection to the institution and doctors.
When contacted Deputy Commissioner Dr K Harish Kumar told The Canara Post that a committee has been constituted to look into the incident.
“The committee will have CEO of Uttara Kannada ZP as the head and DHO as the secretary. A gynecologist, anesthetists, and cardiologist would be the members,” the DC said.
Since the incident took place in the Medical College, in ten days the Committee will look into the case and submit the report to the College Dean.
