Karwar, July 07: Janashakthi Vedike president, Madhav B Nayak requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make electric cremation a protocol for handling the COVID-19 dead bodies.

The letter was sent to the Prime Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Uttara Kannada district.

“As COVID-19 disease is spreading rapidly in our country resulting in more deaths day by day. It is high time now for us to accept the fact and take all necessary precautions to avoid any further dangers to society because of these deaths. Considering the facts across the country in handling the dead bodies, be it in Ballari wherein the dead bodies were placed into a pit, or in Andhra Pradesh wherein an earthmover was used to carry the body. They are all causing disturbing images,” the letter stated.

“Considering all these it is important to create a new protocol for handling the dead bodies by cremating those bodies at the electric crematoriums in all taluks of our country to avoid the pain and disrespect to the victims and also to avoid dangers to the society,” he said.

“As a resident of Karwar taluk and for the well being of our society and also considering the humanity grounds for the victims by taking knowledge of what happened in the handling of first COVID 19 death in Karwar. I request you to identify a suitable area for electric cremation and install an electric crematorium at the earliest to avoid any further panics among the residents of Karwar taluk.

An electric crematorium is scientifically ideal to tackle all the problems associated with the handling of COVID 19 dead bodies and hence I request you to urgently consider my request to install the electric crematorium through a protocol and make a healthy society way forward,” he said.

Nayak told reporter that until the electrical cremation starts, the government should identify land near the reserve forest and bury them there and plant a sandalwood sapling there.
