Udupi, June 19: Deputy Commissioner of Udupi has banned movement of heavy vehicles exceeding 12 tons on Agumbe Ghat till October 15.
The road connects Udupi and Shivamogga district and is part of NH 169A.
With the onset of Monsoon, National Highway-Mangaluru Division Executive Engineer had suggested the Deputy Commissioner ban heavy vehicle movement on Agumbe Ghat as there are possibilities of a landslide on the roadside at the Ghat section which receives heavy rain.
Considering this, Udupi DC has issued an order banning the vehicle exceeding 12 tons on Agumbe Ghat road from June 15 to October 15.
Two alternate roads have been suggested to reach hinterland:

1. Udupi-Shankarnarayana-Siddapura-Hosangadi-Hulikal Ghat-Hosanagara-Teerthahalli
2. Udupi-Karkala-Bajagoli-SK Border-Kerekatte-Sringeri-Shivamogga.
