A 54-year-old man from Maharashtra native of Kundapura was admitted to Kasturba Hospital Manipal on the evening of May 13th with heart attack and died next day evening.

Udupi: He had come to his native Kundapur from Mumbai and was under quarantine when he suffered a massive heart attack. Though treated at the hospital, he died. Now the report has confirmed him as COVID-19 positive.


The 54 year old person who had come from Mumbai to Kundapur was in quarantine. Following heart attack he was taken to the Taluk Hospital at Kundapur. But as the condition was critical, he was rushed to KMC Manipal. Though he was operated, he died in the hospital on May 14.

“As he had come to our district from Mumbai, we conducted COVID test which has confirmed him positive today,” Udupi DC G Jagadeesha said.

“We have quarantined the five who had accompanied him. Though all the doctors of Manipal and Kundapur hospital had treated the patient with PPE kit, three staff of the hospital in Manipal had come into contact with him without safety measures,” he said.

The district administration had identified 57 primary contacts and about 38 secondary contacts. He had come into contact with many when he was at te quarantine facility at the hall in Kundapur before suffering from heart attack.

“A test report confirmed COVID-19 positive. The man was treated at the Isolation Ward because he had trouble in breathing. From the day the man was hospitalized, all necessary precautions were taken and treated as per the government guidelines. His throat swab was collected and sent for examination. Its report confirmed  today as Corona Covid 19 Positive,” a press statement by the Medical Superintendent of the Hospital stated.
