Karwar: Training programme conducted at district prison

Karwar, March 12, 2026: A workshop was organised for inmates of the District Prison Karwar to create awareness about government welfare schemes and departmental facilities available to them after release.
The programme was jointly organised by the Department of Prisons and Correctional Services Karnataka, the District Prison and the Department of Horticulture Karnataka.
The workshop was inaugurated by Parameshwar Prasanna B. Among those present were prison superintendent Hemavathi B, Deputy Conservator of Forests and Regional Director of the Forest Ecology and Environment Department Karnataka Praveen Kumar Basrur, and Senior Assistant Director of Horticulture Sunil Ankolaikar, among others.
Officials said the objective of the Department of Prisons and Correctional Services Karnataka and the government is to ensure that inmates rebuild their lives independently after their release and do not return to unlawful activities.
During the workshop, inmates were provided information about various departmental schemes and facilities available from different government departments. The initiative aimed to help prisoners understand how they can benefit from these schemes and reintegrate into society after completing their sentences.
Officials expressed hope that inmates would make use of the information and government support provided through such programmes to rebuild their lives and pursue a better future after their release.
