Speed Up Road Repairs Damaged by Rain: Rohini Sindhuri Directs Officials

Udupi, August 1: Udupi District In-Charge Secretary, Rohini Sindhuri, has directed officials to take up immediate repair works of rain-damaged roads across the district to facilitate smooth vehicular movement for the public.
Presiding over a review meeting on natural disaster management and departmental progress at the Dr. V.S. Acharya Hall of the District Panchayat in Manipal, she emphasized the importance of timely action during the monsoon season.
Sindhuri instructed officials to ensure daily weather forecasts provided by the Meteorological Department are communicated effectively to the public, especially to fishermen. She stressed that fishermen must be encouraged to wear life jackets while venturing into the sea and warned against fishing during rough sea conditions.
Highlighting the need for long-term infrastructure planning, she called for the preparation of a proposal to expand Malpe Port to support fishing activities. She also urged for the development of basic facilities at the newly constructed Hejamadi Port to enable full-scale fishing operations.
Noting the recurring problem of sea erosion in coastal areas, Sindhuri suggested implementing permanent scientific solutions to mitigate the damage. She also directed the agriculture department to accurately assess the losses to paddy and horticultural crops due to heavy rains and ensure appropriate compensation for the affected farmers.
Further, she instructed officials to resume and expedite the culvert construction works in rural areas as soon as the rains subside, and to prioritize their timely completion.
Addressing concerns raised by the public regarding difficulties in obtaining 9/11E land records for new building constructions, she acknowledged that certain rules may be creating obstacles and suggested that the administration send a proposal to the government recommending specific relaxations.
Reviewing the Jal Jeevan Mission, she noted that out of the 525 tap connection projects under gram panchayat limits, 487 have been completed. She instructed officials to fast-track the remaining 38 works.
The meeting was attended by MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, Deputy Commissioner Swaroopa T.K and various other district-level officials.
