Uttara Kannada’s helpline for sand sale
- Those in need of sand should call the helpline 8123599266

Karwar, Nov 05: In a move to put an end to the exorbitant rate on the sand, Uttara Kannada district administration has chalked out a channel to provide sand to the needy by opening Sand Yards in six taluks of the district.
“We repeatedly get complaints that people face a shortage of sand and have to pay double the price many times. The district sand monitoring committee has noted that the traditional sand removers who hold the transport permit (TP) and the transporters are charging excess money from the people. We will put an end to this,” Deputy Commissioner Dr Harish Kumar K told The Canara Post.
He warned to cancel the license if the transporters or sand removers sand charge exorbitantly.
To ensure that people do not face a shortage of sand the district administration will start sand Yards at Ankola, Sirsi, Dandeli, Honnavara, Bhatkal, and Haliyal taluks. Similar yards will be started in all the taluks.
These centers will be managed by district Nirmiti Kendra and will be supervised by the District Sand Monitoring Committee.
Earlier sand for the government projects was being supplied from these Yards. But henceforth public too will be provided sand from these yards.
How does it work:
Those in need of sand should call the helpline 8123599266 and specify how much sand they need along with the address of delivery. The Taluk sand monitoring committee will look into this and decide the rate which will be conveyed to the consumer. The consumer will then have to transfer the specified amount to the bank account of the specified supplier.
How will it help people?
This system will bring transparency as the monitoring committee and nirmiti kendra will keep a tab on the process. While the customer will get the sand at the rate specified by the district administration, the district administration will also have a clear picture of the sand removal, transport, and sale in the district.
What if there is any violation:
Though all measures have been taken for transparency if the supplier charges more then people can bring this to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner by calling 08382229857 or WhatsApp 9483511015. They can even complain to the Tahsildars and Assistant Commissioners.
