Karwar, Dec. 23, 2024: Uttara Kannada district Deputy Commissioner K. Lakshmi Priya has instructed district skill development officials to design programs that provide technical and skill-based training to local youth, enabling them to secure well-paying jobs within the district instead of migrating elsewhere for employment opportunities.

Presiding over a District Skill Committee meeting held at the Court Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Monday, she emphasized the need to align training programs in ITI colleges with the current demands of the job market. She directed officials to collaborate with companies like Seabird and other local industries to identify job requirements and provide corresponding training to students, thereby creating employment opportunities within the district.

The Deputy Commissioner also sought detailed reports on the youth who have benefited from employment fairs organized in the district so far. She instructed officials to monitor the current status of these beneficiaries and assess the effectiveness of the programs.

A mega job fair is scheduled to be held in the district on January 9, 2025, aiming to connect local youth with prestigious companies offering promising career opportunities. The Deputy Commissioner urged officials to make all necessary arrangements to ensure its success.

Regarding the Yuva Nidhi Scheme, she emphasized the need to ensure all registered beneficiaries receive monthly unemployment benefits without delay. She instructed officials to expedite the verification of pending applications within 10 days and ensure all eligible candidates avail of the scheme’s benefits. Technical issues faced by applicants must be resolved immediately, and coordination with college and university authorities should be established to address challenges related to uploading students’ marksheets on the website.

The meeting also included extensive discussions on the implementation of the PM Vishwakarma Scheme, the PM Suryagarh Free Electricity Scheme, and the PM SVANidhi Scheme under the Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojana-NULM.

The meeting was attended by Stella Varghese, Urban Development Cell Project Director; D.T. Naik, District Skill Development Officer; Jayant, Joint Director of the District Industries Centre; and officials from various departments.
