Minister Vaidya Assures Funding for Advanced Medical Services at Karwar Institute of Medical Sciences
Karwar, Nov 8, 2023: District in-charge Minister Mankalu Vaidya has announced that funds will be allocated to the Karwar Institute of Medical Sciences (KRIMS) to enhance its capabilities and provide super-speciality treatment facilities to patients.
Minister Vaidya made this announcement during a meeting held at KRIMS, Karwar.
He highlighted the longstanding demand for a super-speciality hospital in the district and the government’s commitment to address this need by extending super-speciality facilities at KRIMS. He noted that the Cabinet has already granted approval for the installation of MRI scanning machine.
The construction of a 450-bed building is nearing completion, expected within a month or two, and a separate trauma care center building will also be erected. Minister Vaidya assured that all required medical equipment will be made available.
Acknowledging some challenges faced by KRIMS, the public has been inclined to seek medical attention in Mangalore or other hospitals. To improve access to healthcare, the government has released Rs 29.14 crore under the Asha Kirana scheme, which provides spectacles and eye check-ups to the public in four districts, including Uttara Kannada district.
Minister Vaidya emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts to ensure the public’s access to quality healthcare.
The meeting saw the presence of MLA Satish Sail, Deputy Commissioner Gangu Bai Manakar, KRIMS Director Dr. Gajanana Nayak, Medical Superintendent Shivanand Kudtalkar, and others.
