District-Level KDP Meeting Focuses on Public Welfare and Quality Education in Uttara Kannada
Karwar, Aug 04, 2023: In the quarterly KDP meeting held at the zilla panchayat hall on Friday, Minister for Fisheries, Ports, and Inland Water Transport, and District In-charge, Mankal S Vaidya, urged all officials to ensure the effective implementation of government schemes, especially reaching out to the public and the underprivileged.
During the meeting, Minister Vaidya emphasized the need for a concerted effort to ensure that government schemes reach the deserving beneficiaries. He urged all officials to work diligently, ensuring that the public does not face any inconvenience.
Addressing the issue of education, Minister Vaidya stressed the importance of providing quality education in the district. He urged all teachers to remain committed to delivering excellent educational services to the children, aiming for academic excellence within the state.
The Minister also took note of the condition of schools in the district and instructed officials to list schools lacking basic amenities. He further advised that instead of repairing old buildings, new ones should be constructed to avoid misusing funds.
Concerns were raised during the meeting about the treatment of patients in the district hospitals. MLA Satish Sail and MLA Bheemanna T Naik highlighted the need for improved healthcare for poor patients. In response, the Minister directed officials to take immediate steps to provide better treatment facilities to patients within the district rather than redirecting them to other hospitals.
Issues related to endosulfan victims not receiving adequate support from the government were also brought up. To address this, Minister Vaidya instructed officials to conduct a comprehensive survey in every taluk and ensure that eligible individuals receive the necessary support from the government.
MLA Arabail Shivaram Hebbar raised concerns about the inconvenience caused to children due to online admissions in residential schools. Minister Vaidya assured that steps had already been taken to mitigate any adverse effects on children, with an internal change in the admission process.
During the meeting, it was revealed that there are 2782 anganwadi centers in the district, out of which 452 are landless and 307 are rented. Minister Vaidya directed officials to acquire land from private parties where necessary to provide permanent spaces for the anganwadi centers.
Another significant announcement made by the Minister was the goal of providing electricity connections to every household in the district. The PDO was instructed to provide details of families without electricity connections in their respective areas to HESCOM, enabling the swift provision of electricity to all households.
MLA Dinakar K, MLC Ganapathy Ulvekar, Deputy Commissioner Gangu Bai Ramesh Manakar, Superintendent of Police Vishnuvardhan, and other officials were present at the meeting, along with Zilla Panchayat CEO Ishwar Kumar Kandu, Additional Deputy Commissioner Raju Mogaveera, and representatives from various departments.
