Udupi, Sep 21: Life in Udupi city limped back to normalcy after rain receded on Monday.

Following heavy rain, about 2,800 people were shifted on Friday night and Saturday in various villages of Udupi, Brahmavar, Kapu, and Karkala taluks. Many had taken shelter in the temporary rehabilitation centers opened by the district administration.

The rain receded since Sunday night due to which the water level started decreasing on Monday morning. By afternoon water level in most of the places receded and people returned home. As many as 1,064 people returned home and 137 people are still at the rehabilitation centers.

As the water had entered the home, people were seen cleaning the houses and setting the house in order.

Officials said that 67 houses were damaged in the Udupi district (Udupi taluk-36, Kapu-14, Brahmavar-8, Kundapura-6, and Karkala-3).
