Palliative care core training at Kasturba Hospital Manipal
Manipal, Oct 01, 2022: The Department of Nursing services in association with the department of Palliative Medicine, Kasturba Hospital, Manipal organized End of Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC)/ Palliative care core training for nurses from Sept 28 to 30.
The event was held at Dr. TMA Pai Auditorium.
Hanife MacGamwell, Honorary Head & Instructor for ELNEC, USA in India, and her team were the resource persons.
End of Life Nursing Education Consortium was inaugurated by Dr. Sharath Kumar Rao, Dean, KMC Manipal. Dr. Anand Venugopal, Chief Operating Officer, and Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital were the Guests of Honor.
Dr. Naveen Salins, Professor, and Head, Department of Palliative Medicine & Supportive care gave an overview of ELNEC. Dr. P Suba Sooria, Head of Nursing Services welcomed the gathering. Charmaine Crystal Salins, in-charge, Nursing Training & Quality proposed the vote of thanks.
More than 200 Health care professionals including doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers participated in the Program.
ELNEC/ Palliative care modules are developed collaboratively by the American Association of College of Nursing (AACN) and the city of Hope, Medical Centre, USA, adapted to India and other Asian countries.
This is a program that started in 2000.
In India, the ELNEC training is supported by CIPLA Hospice and Training Center in Pune. The ELNEC project gives nurses and other healthcare professionals the knowledge and skills required to provide quality palliative care where the nurses and doctors work together to positively impact their lives, as well as the lives of patients and families facing serious illness and/or the end of life.
