People throng Mango Mela in Udupi

Udupi, May 21, 2022: It is a good initiative. There are many verities of naturally ripened fresh Mangoes here. The government should hold such events every year,” Rekha of Udupi, who had come for the Mango Mela in Udupi said.
The three-day Mela at Raitha Seva Kendra in Doddanagudde Horticulture Area attracted a good crowd on the first day.
More than 20 stalls, with a total of 30 tonnes of different varieties including Badami, Rasapuri, Malagova, Totapuri, Sindura, Sakkaregutti (Sugar Baby), Baigampalli, Ratnagiri, Alphonso are available at the Mela.
Sugar Baby is a special attraction at the Mango Mela, which is priced at Rs 200 per kg.
The Mela is organized to provide natural fresh and tasty mangoes directly from the farmers to the consumers, and also to introduce various mango varieties to the public. The program is organised by Udupi District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, and Horticulture Department along with Ramanagara District Coconut and Mango Farmers Producers Association.
The mango Mela held for the first time has received a good response.
MLA Raghupathi Bhat, who inaugurated the event, defined mango Mela as a good platform that provided a proper market for the farmers.
CMC president Sumitra Nayak was present. Kundapur Assistant Commissioner Raju K, Horticulture Department Deputy Director Bhuvaneshwari, Agriculture Department Joint Director Kempegowda, Horticulture Department Assistant Director Nidheesh Holla, and others were present.
