Celebration of Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav in Uttara Kannada
Karwar, March 14, 2021: Indian Navy has launched the ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav,’ celebration in a very meaningful way. Instead of just organizing programs and events, the Navy along with Coast Guard, Coastal Security Police, and Fisheries Department held community interaction programs in different parts of Uttara Kannada district on March 12.
The officials interacted with the fishermen community at Tadadi, Honnavar, Kumta, Majali, Baithkol, Mudaga, Belekeri, and Ankola.
The community interaction programs included talks and demonstrations of life-saving equipment and their use, firefighting, and first aid. Also, the rich cultural heritage of the Konkan coast and its role in struggles for India’s independence was highlighted.
Fishermen who are well aware of every activity in the sea play a crucial role in the coastal security of a country.
The interaction was aimed at strengthening the bond between coastal security agencies fishermen who operate in the same environment.
This opportunity was utilized by the Indian Navy to educate the fishermen on aspects of safety of life at sea’ and their vital role as ‘eyes and ears at sea towards ensuring coastal security.
