KEONICS to develop IT Park at Derebail
Mangaluru, Feb 24, 2021: An Information Technology Park would be set up at Derebail in Mangaluru.
Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for IT, BT, Science and Technology C N Ashwath Narayan told this to the media persons on the sidelines of Mangaluru Innovation Conclave at Mangaluru today.
The conclave was organized by Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation (KEONICS) and the Centre for Contemporary Issues, Bengaluru.
“Initially the plan was to develop the park on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. But it was dropped as no private party has come forward. Thus the park will be developed by KEONICS on its 3.25 acre land in Mangaluru,” he said adding that the four-acre land adjacent will also be taken for setting up the park.
KEONICS chairman K Harikrishna Bantwal said that setting up an IT park will create job opportunities for the youths of the region.
He said that of the 50,000 students who pass out from the colleges in the region only 15,000 get in the coastal districts and others go out in search of jobs.
The proposed park at Derebail would need ₹ 60 crore investment and about two years to complete. KEONICS MD S N Siddaramappa said that the DPR of the project would be submitted to the government shortly.
