When State EC comes calling at a tribal village
Karwar, Feb 09, 2021: The Tribal village of Garadolli in Haliyal Taluk of Uttara Kannada district had a special guest today.
The village with 80 houses and about 150 voters does not see many outsiders usually.
While the villagers had at the most seen district-level officials, the ‘Guest,’ they saw today was one of the topmost officers in the state and was visiting the village for the first time.
State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and Additional Chief Secretary Dr. Sanjeev Kumar accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Harish Kumar and other senior officials visited the village today.
As soon as the team of officials arrived, they were given a warm welcome by the villagers.
Sanjeev Kumar was down to earth and interacted with the villagers in such a way that the tribals did not hesitate and felt free to talk to him.
He asked the villagers if their names were on the voters’ list and stressed the need to participate in the election process. He also checked the records on the performance of voters’ registration drive in the village.
“Though you live in the forest, you should actively participate in the election process and thereby be a part of the mainstream. By doing so you will be upholding the democracy,” he told the villagers.
He also expressed his happiness over the interaction.
