New COVID-19 strain update: Total number of infected increases to 82
New Delhi, Jan 08, 2021: The total number of cases infected with the new strain of COVID-19, first reported in the UK, has reached 82.
According to the health department, the number was 71 on Jan 6. Today’s bulletin stated that the number has increased to 82.
The positive samples are being tested at 10 INSACOG labs across the country (NIBMG Kolkata, ILS Bhubaneswar, NIV Pune, NCCS Pune, CCMB Hyderabad, CDFD Hyderabad, InSTEM Bengaluru, NIMHANS Bengaluru, IGIB Delhi, NCDC Delhi) for genome sequencing.
The close contacts of those who tested positive too are under quarantine. Comprehensive contact tracing has been initiated for co-travelers, family contacts, and others. Genome sequencing on other specimens is underway.
