Karwar, Dec 21, 2023: Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner Gangu Bai Manakar assured the public that as of now, there have been no reported cases of COVID-19 in the district. Addressing concerns, she emphasized that there is no need for unnecessary panic or confusion among the residents.

The statement came during the district task force meeting, over which the DC presided today.

Encouraging adherence to government guidelines, she stressed the importance of raising awareness about personal hygiene. She highlighted that the health department has taken all necessary precautions, ensuring that the public need not worry.

To further bolster preparedness, district and taluk hospitals have been temporarily closed for COVID-19 precautions. Essential medical equipment such as ICU units, equipment, oxygen cylinders, oxygen plants, and liquid oxygen plants are in optimal condition. Any issues with medical equipment are promptly addressed with immediate repair instructions, according to the DC.

Currently, government hospitals in the district boast 1702 beds, including 190 isolation beds with oxygen, 1189 oxygen beds, 201 ICU beds without ventilators, and 122 ICU beds with ventilators. A skilled workforce stands ready, comprising 234 doctors specializing in COVID-19 management, 107 AYUSH doctors, 457 nurses, 139 para-medical personnel, 63 ventilator management experts, 4 PSA plant management personnel, and 144 frontline workers available for immediate service.

Ensuring adequate resources, the DC stated that there is a sufficient stock of ambulances, ventilators, oxygen concentrators, and emergency medicines. Additional staff and equipment are poised for deployment should the need arise.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Prakash Rajput, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Neeraj, Medical Superintendent Dr. Shivanand Kudtarakar of KRIMS, District Surveillance Officer Archana, and officials from various departments, discussed comprehensive strategies to manage the ongoing situation effectively.
