Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms Forecasted
Mangaluru, Nov 7, 2023: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory for Coastal Karnataka, predicting heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity over the next three days.
Heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places over Uttara Kannada district of Coastal
Karnataka; Gadag, Haveri districts of North Interior Karnataka and over Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru
Rural, Chikkaballapura, Mandya & Mysuru districts of South Interior Karnataka until November 8 morning.
Day 1 (Valid until 8.30 am of November 8, 2023):
- Heavy rain (64.5 mm to 115.5 mm) is expected in isolated areas of Uttara Kannada district in Coastal Karnataka.
- Thunderstorm activity accompanied by lightning is likely to occur in isolated spots across all districts of Coastal Karnataka.
Day 2 (Valid until 8.30 am of November 9, 2023):
- Thunderstorm activity with lightning is anticipated in isolated areas across all districts of Coastal Karnataka.
Day 3 (Valid until 8.30 am of November 10, 2023):
- Thunderstorm activity with lightning is predicted in isolated areas across all districts of Coastal Karnataka.
A cyclonic circulation lies over Southeast & adjoining Eastcentral Arabian Sea in lower tropospheric
levels. Under its influence, a Low Pressure Area is likely to form over Eastcentral Arabian Sea on
08th November, 2023.
Strong easterly/northeasterly winds from Bay of Bengal to southeast Peninsular India in lower tropospheric levels.
Under its influence:
- Light/moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall very likely over south Peninsular India during next 3-4 days and decrease thereafter.
- Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Coastal Karnataka, North
- Interior Karnataka on 07th; over Kerala-Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal during 07th-09th and over South Interior Karnataka during 07th-08th November.
- Isolated very heavy rainfall also likely over Tamil Nadu on 07th November
