Mangaluru, September 1, 2023: In a continued commitment to enhancing security measures, Mangaluru International Airport today announced the handover of additional advanced equipment to the Airport Security Group (ASG) of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

The equipment is set to bolster the capabilities of this central armed police force responsible for safeguarding the airport, ensuring a heightened level of preparedness to address any potential security challenges.

Virendra Kumar Joshi, Senior Commandant and Chief Airport Security Officer, expressed his gratitude to the airport operator for their proactive approach in fulfilling the equipment requirements as mandated by the civil aviation security regulator. 

The equipment transferred to the ASG encompasses a range of essential items, including multipurpose belts, thigh pistol holsters, ballistic goggles, handheld metal detectors along with their chargers, laser grips for pistols, customized pouches for spare magazines, and even tire-killers.

The introduction of this critical piece of equipment is aimed at enabling ASG personnel to disable vehicles attempting unauthorized entry into the airport’s critical operational area, according to the airport spokesperson.

Virendra Kumar Joshi, Senior Commandant and Chief Airport Security Officer, expressed his gratitude to the airport operator for their proactive approach in fulfilling the equipment requirements as mandated by the civil aviation security regulator.

He emphasized the strong collaboration between the airport security team and the ASG, which he believes will ensure the airport’s security is managed with efficiency and professionalism while maintaining a people-friendly approach.

This recent equipment provision marks a continuation of the airport operator’s ongoing efforts since assuming control of the facility’s operation and maintenance in October 2020. The ASG now boasts a state-of-the-art inventory, including a bullet-resistant vehicle, as well as enhanced accommodation facilities for its personnel through additional barracks. These developments align seamlessly with the airport’s vision to become a safe, secure, customer-centric, and eco-friendly organization.
