Mangaluru, Nov 12, 2021: Seven coaches of Kannur-Bengaluru express derailed today morning due to sudden falling of boulders.

Officials said 7 coaches of Train No 07390 Kannur – Bengaluru Express derailed [B1, B2 (3rd AC), S6, S7, S8, S9, S10 (Sleeper) coaches] between Toppuru – Sivadi of (Bengaluru – Salem Section) Bengaluru Division. 

The train had started from Kannur at 6.05 PM on Nov 11.

DRM Bengaluru Shyam Singh with Divisional team of senior officers with Doctor, rushed to the spot Immediately with Accident Relief Train (ART) and Medical Equipment Van. DRM Salem with team have also proceeded to the spot along with ART from Erode.

All 2348 Passengers on board are safe and no casualty/injury reported. Water and light refreshment have been arranged at spot. Help Desk have been opened Hosur 04344-222603, Bengaluru 080-22156554 and Dharmapuri 04342-232111.

Senior Officers led by Shri Sanjeev Kishore, General Manager, P K Mishra Additional General Manager, SPS Gupta Principal Chief Engineer and Principal Heads of Departments in the HQ Disaster Management Cell, Hubballi are monitoring the situation closely.

Officials said that the rear unaffected portion of the train viz 7 Coaches detached from the train and cleared the spot at 7:40 am towards Toppuru. The front unaffected portion of 4 Coaches were being cleared at 9:25 am to Sivadi Station.  Divisional Railway Manager Shri Shyam Singh has reached the spot. Tea, snacks and drinking water were arranged for passengers.

Additional Chief Medical Superintendent from Salem Division made a thorough check of all coaches and confirmed no injury/casualty to any passenger.

All the stranded passengers have been safely evacuated from the spot of the accident as well as Toppuru Station by arranging buses. Those desirous of continuing their journey to Salem will be accommodated in alternative train. Arrangements for refund for those who wish to proceed further are also ensured, officials added.

Due to derailment of the train several trains have been diverted and cancelled.

Diversion:

Train No. 02677 KSR Bengaluru – Ernakulam Superfast Special schedule departure at 06:10 hrs will be diverted to run via Baiyyappanahali, Bangarapet and Tirupattur.

Train No. 07236 Nagercoil Jn- KSR Bengaluru Festival Special schedule arrival at 09:10 hrs will be diverted to run via Salem, Tirupattur, Bangarapet and KSR Bengaluru.

Train No. 07316 Salem – Yesvantpur Express Special schedule departure at 05:30 hrs at Salem will be regulated and rescheduled by 3 am.

Train No. 01014 Coimbatore – Lokmanya Tilak Terminus commencing journey from Coimbatore on 12.11.2021 will be diverted to run via Salem, Tirupattur, Jolarpettai ‘A’ Cabin and Bangarapet.

Train No. 02678 Ernakulam – KSR Bengaluru commencing journey from Ernakulam on Nov 12 will be diverted to run via Salem, Tirupattur, Jolarpettai ‘A’ Cabin and Bangarapet.

Train No. 07235 KSR Bengaluru – Nagercoil commencing journey from KSR Bengaluru on Nov 12 will be diverted to run via Salem, Krishnarajapurm, Bangarapet. Jolarpettai ‘A’ Cabin and Salem.

Train No. 06232 Mysuru – Mayiladuturai commencing journey from Mysuru on Nov 12 will be diverted to run via Salem, Krishnarajapurm, Bangarapet. Jolarpettai ‘A’ Cabin and Salem.

Cancellation:

Train No. 07316 Salem – Yesvantpur commencing journey from Salem on Nov 12 will be cancelled.

Train No. 07315 Yesvantpur – Salem commencing journey from Salem on Nov 12 will be cancelled.
