World Stroke Day observed at Kasturba Hospital
Stroke awareness and free screening program
Manipal, Oct 30, 2021: As part of World Stroke Day, Department of Neurosciences at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal organized a Stroke awareness and free screening camp program on Oct 29.
Inaugurating the event Dr. Sharath K Rao stressed the importance of quick treatment.
“According to the survey, one out of every four people in the world has a stroke in their lifetime. About 25% of people die because of stroke within a month, 35% will suffer from permanent disability, and the remaining people do not know that they are paralyzed. So if anyone gets a stroke, consult a neurologist and take immediate treatment it will get cured completely,” he said.
As Every minute is valuable this year the World Stroke Day is observed with the theme “minutes can save lives”.
Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent was the guest of honor of the program.
“According to the ICMR report, Stroke is the 4th largest cause for death in India and the 5th largest cause for permanent disability. Therefore, early detection and treatment should be the best solution for this. A stroke screening program is being held today and tomorrow at the hospital, the public should take advantage of this,” he said.

World Stroke Day is observed every year on October 29 to reduce the incidence of stroke across the world. When somebody has a stroke, every second that goes by is crucial.
