 Victory Flame Arrives at Karwar Naval Base

Karwar, Sept 17, 2021: The Swarnim Vijay Varsh Victory Flame, arrived at Naval Base, Karwar on Friday evening.

The Swarnim Vijay Varsh is being celebrated across the nation to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of the 1971 war victory.

Rear Admiral Mahesh Singh, Flag Officer Commanding Karnataka Naval Area received the Victory Flame at the war memorial. Personnel of the Indian Army and Indian Navy were present at the venue.

The war memorial at Vijay Chowk, in INS Kadamba, was constructed in memory of gallant sailors who laid down their lives on December 19, 1961, in the ‘Operation Vijay,’ for the liberation of Goa and Daman and Diu from Portuguese rule. The military action at the Anjediva Island in Karwar played an important role then.

The Victory Flame will be in Karwar till Sep 24. Several activities are planned to be conducted on board INS Vikramaditya, in schools, the local NCC unit, and the statue of Late Major Raghoba Rane at the Rabindranath Tagore.
The Flame will later depart for Belagavi.
