Udupi: Shop owner commits suicide

Udupi, Aug 26, 2021: A shop owner committed suicide at Nadubettu in Udupi.

Arun Kumar Shetty (48) of Seethanadi owned a shop at Tilakwadi in Belagavi. On August 24 he went missing. A complaint was filed at Tilakwadi station.

Meanwhile, Arun came to his in-laws’ place at Nadubettu of Brahmavara Taluk and on the intervening night of August 24 and 25 committed suicide by hanging. The body was found hanging to a cashew tree behind the house.

Police said that a chit with a message ‘Due to problem in business.’

Arun Kumar Shetty used to narrate about the loss in business due to Covid lockdown. This is said to have driven him to take up the extreme step of suicide, the police said.

Brahmavar Police have registered an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) case under Section 174 of CrPC.
