Flood in Uttara Kannada: Ankola, Karwar worst hit
Karwar, July 24, 2021: The number of people shifted to relief camps has increased to 9,518 in Uttara Kannada district.
As on Saturday morning, 81 villages were affected due to rain and flood. The highest number of evacuations was in Ankola. As many as 3,606 people were shifted in Ankola and 2,742 in Karwar. This was followed by Kumta where 2,537 people were shifted.
Of the 113 relief camps set up in the district, 9,518 inmates are taking shelter.
According to the officials, 910-hectare agriculture crop and 53-hectare horticulture crop has been damaged.
The rain has damaged 148.2 km road, 30 bridges, and 146 electric poles.
Landslides have been reported in seven places- Jajigudda and Bairumbe in Sirsi, Anshi Ghat in Joida and Arabail Ghat, Dabaguli, Kalache, and Talakebail in Yellapur.
The people of Kalache have asked the district administration to help them as about 250 people in the village have been disconnected after a landslide damaged the only road.
The district administration said rescue teams have been sent to help the people there.
