Road to Udupi DC’s office named after Dr V S Acharya
Udupi, July 06, 2021: It was a formal function by the Udupi district administration to express its gratitude to former Minister Late V S Acharya on his birthday.
The Road from Syndicate Circle to ‘Rajatadri,’- Udupi District Deputy Commissioner’s office which was named after V S Acharya was formally inaugurated by Industries Minister Jagadish Shettar on Tuesday.
While the Udupi DC office was situated in a small building at Udupi town, Acharya played an active role in the construction of the Deputy Commissioner’s office at Manipal endpoint. The building was named ‘Rajatradri.’
Jagadish Shettar was the revenue minister when the land was allotted for the construction of DC’s office.
During the inaugural function, Udupi MLA and Minister Jagadish Shettar recollected the contribution of V S Acharya in the development of Udupi.
“The Udupi-Manipal road was a cursed road. When BJP came to power in 2006, Acharya placed the proposal of widening it and got it passed in the first cabinet,” Raghupathi Bhat recollected.
“Acharya always aimed at the development and did not heed to pressure from anybody. He did not have enemies. When he died, Congress leaders paid tribute to him in their office,” he added.
Shettar recollected how he and Dr. Acharya stood firm in reserving the land for DC’s office despite some opposition.
He also remembered Acharya for his ability in handling the tricky situation in the government.
V S Acharya’s son Dr Kiran Acharya, BJP leader Uday Kumar Shetty and others were present.
