Study visit of Standing Committee on Defence to Karwar Naval Base
Karwar, Jan 20, 2021: A 16 member Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence (SCOD) led by Chairperson Jual Oram visited Karwar Naval Base today.
They were here as part of the on-the-spot study visit to Goa and Karwar on the ‘State of present operational preparedness in the Arabian Sea including Coastal Security.’ The delegation was received and conducted by Flag Officer Commanding Karnataka Naval Area Rear Admiral Mahesh Singh.
The delegation was briefed on the progress of activities with respect to the development of Project Seabird including the modernization of Naval Ship Repair Yard (Karwar) and also the capabilities of Indian Naval Ship Vikramaditya.
The visit also included capability demonstration at the Shiplift facility and field tour of the Naval Harbour onboard ferry craft towards the assessment of marine infrastructure being developed as part of Project Seabird Phase II-A.
On completion of the visit, the Parliamentary Study Committee departed for Goa. The delegation is scheduled to undertake discussions on the modernization of Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) there.
