New COVID-19 strain update: Total number of infected increases to 71
New Delhi, Jan 06, 2021: The total number of cases infected with the new strain of the novel Coronavirus first reported in the UK has increased to 71.
According to the health department, the number was 58 on Tuesday and today it increased to 71.
The positive samples are being tested at 10 INSACOG labs across the country (NIBMG Kolkata, ILS Bhubaneswar, NIV Pune, NCCS Pune, CCMB Hyderabad, CDFD Hyderabad, InSTEM Bengaluru, NIMHANS Bengaluru, IGIB Delhi, NCDC Delhi) for genome sequencing.
All the positive patients are kept in single room isolation in designated Health Care facilities by respective State Governments. The close contacts of those who tested positive too are under quarantine. Comprehensive contact tracing has been initiated for co-travelers, family contacts, and others. Genome sequencing on other specimens is underway.
