Modi lauds Udupi couple’s Swachhta drive
Udupi, Dec 27, 2020: The newlywed couple who cleaned Someshwar beach instead of going on a honeymoon have received Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appreciation during ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ today.
Anudeep and Minusha from Baindoor in Udupi district. They cleaned Someshwar beach which is about 3 km from Anudeep’s house.
This had made headlines last week and also gone viral on social media. Prime Minister Modi who identified this mentioned about their initiative at the Mann Ki Baat today.
The couple could hardly believe that the Prime Minister of the country, whom they consider as their inspiration in clean drive, had appreciated them.
“There is a young couple from Karnataka, Anudeep, and Minusha. Anudeep and Minusha got married just last month in November. A lot of young people go for a trip after marriage, but these two did something different,” Modi stated.
“Both of them always saw that people go out on a trip, but, wherever they go, they leave a lot of garbage and waste behind. A similar situation was prevailing at the Someshwar beach in Karnataka,” he said.
“Anudeep and Minusha decided that they would clean up the garbage that people have left behind at the Someshwar beach. This was the first resolve that both husband and wife took after marriage. Together they cleaned up a lot of garbage from the beach. Anudeep also shared about his resolve on social media. And then lo! Inspired by his magnanimous thought, a number of young people came and joined him. You will be surprised to know that together these people have cleaned more than 800 kg of waste from Someshwar beach,” he added.
Anudeep and Minusha’s reaction:
Anudeep and Minusha had no words when they received phone calls from their friends and family members who told the couple about Modi appreciating their clean drive campaign at Mann Ki Baat.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji is our inspiration. I have no words to say,” Anudeep said.
“I was inspired by Modiji’s Swachta abhiyan and we had started Clean Kundapur movement about two years ago. I had told my wife about my dream to meet Modi. Today Modi ji has identified our work. There are no words to explain my happiness,” Anudeep added.
