Damodar Aithal passes away
Udupi, Dec 08, 2020: Senior scholar and journalist Damodar Aithal passed away today morning. He was 85.
Aithal, a Kannada scholar and journalist, was instrumental in creating awareness about consumer rights through Udupi Consumers Forum.
While many feel retirement is a time to take a break from active work, for Aithal it provided a platform for social service.
After serving in the education department, Aithal was active in strengthening the Consumers Forum, a cooperative for teachers, and creating public awareness through Journalism.
His initiatives and activities through Consumers Forum is remembered even today by the people of Udupi.
Aithal was an active journalist. The topics that he chose for writing, his command over the language and authority over the subject attracted the general public, officials, and elected representatives.
Aithal was the first president of the Udupi district Journalist Union. He served as a reporter in Kannada Prabha and also wrote columns in Hosa Digantha.
He was instrumental in the formation of Teachers’ Co-Operative Bank and also had served as Executive Director of the bank.
Aithal played an active role in the Chinnara Santharpane initiated by Sri Vidyadheesha Teertha Sripadaru of Palimaru Matha during Paryaya. He toilet for the formation of Tulu Shivalli Madhwa Mahamandala.
He is survived by three daughters. The last rights were performed at the Beedinagudde crematorium.
