Udupi, Nov 13: The State cabinet has approved two major projects that would benefit several villages of Brahmavar Taluk in Udupi district.

The first one is a bridge cum dam across River Seetha near Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple at Mogaveerapete in Brahmavar. The other one is a minor dam to check saltwater intrusion. It is built across the Madisal river at Herayibettu in Heroor village. Both projects are estimated to cost ₹ 35 crores each.

Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat, under whose constituency both the projects would be enforced, has defined these projects as Deepavali gift by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to Udupi district.

“Despite COVID-19 pandemic, Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has considered the longstanding demand of the people and has granted these two projects,” Bhat said.

“These projects will provide drinking water, help the farmers to irrigate their land, and also help in checking salt water intrusion. I would also like to thank the Minor irrigation minister J C Madhu Swamy who was instrumental in following this up,” Bhat said.
