Apex court imposes ₹ 1 fine against Prashant Bhushan

New Delhi, Aug 31: Supreme Court on Monday imposed a token fine of ₹1 against activist-lawyer Prashant Bhushan as punishment in a contempt case. The fine has to be deposited by September 15.

According to PTI, the court stated that the failure to deposit the fine will lead to a 3-month jail term and debarment from law practice for three years.

“Freedom of speech cannot be curtailed but rights of others need to be respected,” the SC noted in the case.
