Postal Department provides essential services, helps people during Lockdown.
Mangalore April 15: Having a problem in sending emergency medicines? Or confused about how to recharge the mobile and DHT services when the recharge shops are shut? The Postal Department is providing all these essential services and helping the common man during LockDown.
All the post offices in the Mangalore section have already started working towards it.
In Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts, medicines and emergency items can be shipped by post to any place. Arrangements have also been made to distribute medicines and supplies to the nearby districts of Shivamogga, Mysuru, Kodagu and Chikkamagalur.
Since there is no direct transport facility from Mangalore to neighboring states and other parts of India, it has to be sent from Mangalore via Bangalore due to which there could be some delay.
If the sender tells the post office about the urgency, it will be helpful to the department in taking it on priority.
e-Money Order (e-MO) Service: This facility helps the people in transferring the money to their family members or friends at a distant place during Lockdown.
Lack of transport connectivity does not affect this service which is a Pincode based system for electronic technology. People can use this service and send money to any part of the country.
Payment of Social Security Schemes: The beneficiaries of various social security schemes are getting money through E-Money Order and Postal Savings Accounts.
In the last one week, around 5,500 beneficiaries have received e-MO in Mangaluru Division. About 24,0000 beneficiaries will be paid e-MO this week.
Electricity Bill Payment: Electricity Bill Payment Service is also available at all Postal and Branch Post Offices of Mangalore Postal Division. Customers can use their RR number and details of the subdivision and pay the bill even if they did not receive the MESCOM bill due to the lock-down.
Mobile and DTH recharge: Mobile / DTH recharge facilities are also available at the post office. This would be helpful to the people as the recharge centers are closed due to the Lockdown.
Customers can make a mobile / DTH recharge at their nearest post office through the India Post Payments Bank Account. The facility is available at home through mobile banking.
Officials have requested the public to maintain social distancing at the post office. All post offices are currently providing the required postal service from 10 am to 2 pm.
