PM Modi Departs for Kazan to Attend 16th BRICS Summit at President Putin’s Invitation

New Delhi, October 22, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed today for a two-day visit to Kazan, Russia, at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin to attend the 16th BRICS Summit. The visit is expected to further strengthen India’s participation in BRICS, a key platform for addressing global issues such as climate change, economic cooperation, and multilateral reform.
In a statement before his departure, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the importance of BRICS as a forum for dialogue on the global developmental agenda, building resilient supply chains, and fostering cultural and people-to-people connections. “India values the close cooperation within BRICS,” he said, emphasizing how the group’s expansion last year has increased its inclusivity and relevance in addressing global challenges.
The Prime Minister also noted that his visit to Kazan builds on the progress made during the Annual BRICS Summit held in July 2024 in Moscow. He stated that this trip would further reinforce the “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership” between India and Russia, underscoring the close ties between the two nations.
During the summit, Prime Minister Modi is expected to meet other BRICS leaders, engaging in discussions aimed at enhancing cooperation in various fields, including economic development and climate change action.
