Udupi, June 08, 2021: The Udupi District Court today sentenced the three main accused to life in the sensational Bhaskar Shetty murder case.

Bhaskar Shetty was a famous businessman in Udupi and had supermarkets in Saudi Arabia. He was the owner of properties running to crores in Udupi.

Background:
His mother Gulabi filed a missing complaint after Bhaskar went missing on July 28, 2016.

The police investigation had revealed that on July 28 evening around 4 pm the three- Bhaskar Shetty’s wife Rajeshwari Shetty, son Navaneeth Shetty and their close aide priest Niranjan Bhat had murdered Bhaskar Shetty in the house at Hayagreeva Nagar near Udupi Railway station. The body was taken to the house of Niranjan Bhat at Nandalike near Karkala and allegedly burned by pouring petrol at the ‘Yaga Shala.’ The remains of the body were later disposed of in the nearby river.

The police had arrested the three as the main accused. The driver Raghavendra and Niranjan Bhat’s father too were arrested.

Judgment:
In the judgment today the judge sentenced Niranjan Bhat, Rajeshwari Shetty, and Navaneeth Shetty to life. The driver Raghavendra was acquitted. Niranjan’s father who too was accused had died about a year ago due to health issues.
